Motivation for Dancers

Today is a super-special collab blog post with Alessia De Vita (check out her blog)!  She will be talking to you today about motivation for ballet dancers and how to get inspired and ready to do your best.

I also did a post for her blog which is up today about terminology.  We discuss all kinds of common controversy and talk about how to determine the differences between various styles in addition to the history of ballet terminology.  Check it out on her blog.

So, I don’t want to take away from her awesome post, so, without further ado, motivation for dancers. -Ella

Motivation: The Secret to Personal Success

Motivation is a mix of factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested to a job or to make an effort to attain a goal.

Dancers (and athletes in general) are special, we do our job because we love it so much also if it’s totally painful, physically and mentally.

So you can clearly see how important it is for a dancer to keep going and stay motivated:

  • it makes you feel stronger every day
  • it helps you to work harder (especially when you’re under pressure)
  • it is the only real secret to reach all your goals

Do you want to discover the way to achieve your personal success? If yes (I know you want it!) keep reading!

What is success?

Before starting, you need to know this: there’s a huge difference between FAME and SUCCESS. The first one is about being recognized, widely known…

The second one, instead, is about achieving what you’ve always desired (yes, it is possible!).

I think that everyone should aspire to success; you don’t have to be a supermodel or the richest person in the world! All that you have to do is working every day to become a better version of yourself.

Comparison is your enemy, remember this. There’s nobody like you so why you should imitate someone else when you are special and unique?

How can you find your motivation

First of all, imagine. Imagine what you want to become in the future. Take all the time that you need but do it for real!

Forgive your past, work today and think tomorrow…that’s the rule!  Imagination allows you to see the things before they actually happened.

Having a clear image of yourself in the future can help you to make decisions, to know what are you fighting for!

Second thing is to find people and friends who support you, who can understand you. You don’t deserve negativity but happiness!

As a dancer, I can tell you that this is extremely hard…it isn’t normal to renounce to parties, shopping just to go to class.

When you have doubt, think to yourself in the future: who do you want to be?

Third is to set goals and write them down. Only 3% of people write down their goals and, guess what? They’re always the most successful!

Set a time and break them down into small steps.

Don’t forget to be sweet with yourself and every time you do something right, give yourself a reward.

How to be successful

Simply love what you do, be enthusiast and strive to progress, not to perfection. Accept corrections and advices from your mentors and have fun in your life! Visualize daily your perfect life and I’m sure you will get there. Being successful is all about this!

And now a little summary:

  1. Fame is not success and success is not fame.
  2. Imagination is the base of your motivation.
  3. A person without goals is lost, a person without written goals is less disposed to work fo rthem.
  4. Everyone can acheive personal success.

Now I want you to take 30 minutes for you and do the things above. If you have 30 minutes to stay online you also have time for yourself!

Invest in yourself, now and always!

“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”

(T.S. Eliot)

About me:

My name is Alessia de Vita, I’m 13 and I come from Italy. I study ballet since I was 3 years old but I started professionally only in 2014. My big dream is to join the company of American Ballet Theatre of New York and maybe become a soloist or a principal. At the same time I’m trying to help other aspiring dancers like me to find their way and reach their goals. I think that dancing is a difficult art, full of sacrifice but it gives you that strength, that energy! I dance to give what I have inside to people. I dance to feel alive. Thank you for reading and good luck!
