World Ballet Day just happened recently, and while it is great to watch the livestream for the beautiful dancing and insight into the daily lives of many prominent company members…I also love to look at the fashion. The recorded company classes of over three of the biggest companies in the world really gives you a sneak peek as to what the latest style trends are.
If you want to see for yourself, check out the recordings of some of my favorite classes from this year’s livestream below:
So, I thought I would summarize some of the latest fashion trends in the dance world for you all:
Full-length legwarmers: It seems like this has been a thing for a while, but lately, mostly due to the explosion of Boston Ballet principal Ashley Ellis’ company Rubia Wear, full length legwarmers are really bringing it in. Rubia Wear leg warmers are super high quality, warm and fashionable, and all of the professional company dancers are wearing them for barre lately. I myself have a pair in the mail that I got for my birthday!
Low buns with embellishments: The women seem to all have their hair in a low bun for class, which I personally think is a very elegant, classical choice. I like it! You can observe many dancers sporting center parts with twists or braids on either side, and for some a looser hairstyle and bun.
Floral skirts: Personally I am a big fan of this trend! It is very elegant and goes super well with a plain leotard, which tend to make for a really nice line.
